Recent years have been witness to a worldwide rush towards the implementation of so-called, “Smart Cities.” Cities like London, Barcelona, and Hangzhou have already been awarded the vague mantel of “smart.”
This due to their vast systems and grids of sensors, intelligent lighting, adaptive traffic signals, and closed-circuit cameras. At the same, however, there is little internationally recognized consensus on what exactly a smart city entails.Furthermore, there appear to be various security and privacy issues at stake, that most often seem to be neglected in the planning and construction of such systems.
